My Friend who has had an Xbox360 with xbox live for 2 years says that you can get microsoft points if you come first online in games eg. Halo3 coming first in a matchmaking match, or racing games and guitar hero3 beating ur online opponent?

No. This is not true. Microsoft points you have to purchase using money, or you can buy a card at the shop, with a code on it. You can go back home, click on 'redeem code' and enter the code and get the amount of points listed on the card. So no, you can't win Microsoft points. He's/She's just winding you up.
